Tommy has penned nine warrant articles considered by Town Meeting and enacted into law. This is exceptional – it’s rare that a Town Meeting Member authors more than one in an entire career. Tommy’s bills include:

  • Requiring that the Town use green certified cleaning products in school and town buildings when efficacious and cost effective (November 2009)
  • Prohibiting the sale of tobacco products at educational institutions and medical facilities, including pharmacies and on college campuses (November 2011)
  • Requiring the Town to enact building specifications so that Town-owned new and renovated roofs are built solar panel ready (November 2012)
  • Correcting anachronistic, superfluous, and erroneous language in the Town’s tobacco control bylaw (November 2013)
  • Expanding the tobacco control by-law to prohibit smoking in all hotel rooms and liveries, treat e-cigarettes just like tobacco cigarettes with respect to sales and use, require sellers to take active steps to prevent theft, and increase the fines for selling tobacco to minors (November 2014)
  • Doubling the amount of renewable electricity Brookline ratepayers receive from Eversource, from 25 to 50 percent, through the Brookline Green Electricity Community Choice Aggregation program (two bills, November 2015)
  • Limiting all tobacco permits already issued, thereby ensuring that tobacco sales are gradually eliminated in Brookline (May 2016)
  • Honoring Brookline African American sculptor John Wilson and allowing for his sculpture of Dr. Martin Luther King to be placed in the Town Hall lobby (November 2017)
